Supervisory Skills

Managers, Superintendents, Senior Supervisors, including Section Heads, who have the potential for or have recently been promoted to middle management.

SUMMARY:

Through the effective use of staff supervision, the supervisor can motivate subordinates and thus improve performance of the individual, the team, the business unit of the organisation.

 

The course is designed for supervisory staff from various functions, who want to further develop their supervisory skills and be able to apply them effectively within their working environment. The topics covered will include:

  • Target setting and Performance Management
  • The Supervisor as a leader
  • Problem solving and decision making
  • The supervisor as a coach
  • Maintaining budgetary and cost control
  • Handling conflict within the team

 

OBJECTIVES:

Chartered Engineer
Member of the Institute of Mechanical Engineers

Professional Experience:

1986 – Present : Independent Consultant

1980 – 1986: GEC/Pirelli – Group Training & Development Manager

1959 – 1979: Dunlop (Various Positions)

1958: West Midlands Gas Board as a Chemist

David trained as a mechanical engineer after working originally as chemist. His training experience was developed as Tutor/Consultant at Dunchurch - GEC, The College of Management. He was also a major contributor to the general management programmes. He has worked as an Associate with Ashridge Management College and also Sundride Park Management Centre. He has been a member of the Council of the Association of Management Education and Development in UK.
