COURSE PRESENTER:
Dr John L. Dawson PhD
Dr Dawson was awarded his Ph.D. in 1967 for research into the corrosion of lead alloys. Prior to this he completed a 4 year industrial sandwich course in applied chemistry, specialising in radiochemistry and chemical engineering.
From 1970-1973 he was a Lecturer in Chemical Engineering at UMIST and from 1973-1989 a Lecturer in Corrosion Science and Engineering at the Corrosion and Protection Centre, UMIST. During this period supervised some 30 PhD projects and 50 M.Sc. He was awarded the Beilby Medal of the Institute of Metals in 1979 for work on corrosion monitoring.
Dr Dawson has presented courses on corrosion at the under-graduate level to students in chemical engineering, civil engineering, mechanical engineering and chemistry. He has developed courses at MSc level in corrosion, electrochemistry, inhibition and chemical treatments, corrosion monitoring and inspection, etc. He has also developed and presented over the past 15 years a series of industry based courses on corrosion, corrosion control and corrosion management to the oil and pipeline industries. Clients have included Saudi Aramco, PDO and IBC, as well as the water industry and British Energy.
Since 1989 Dr Dawson has been employed full-time as an independent corrosion consultant. He has undertaken a range of studies associated with failure investigations and corrosion control for process plant and refineries, for the oil and gas industry and the construction industry in the U.K., the North Sea, Europe, Russia and Arabian Gulf.
Dr Dawson has authored and co-authored over 100 scientific and technical papers.
